Are women really safe in India?

06/11/17:

Are women really safe in India?

We should rather ask "Do men really care for making India a better place for women? "

I was privileged to watch today's KBC episode. Respected Kailash Satyarthiji,a Nobel Peace Prize awardee was invited to the show.

His speech about the mindset of Indian men perturbed me completely. I was petrified by some events that he narrated.

He had been through them. It startled me so much that I thought I can contribute a small change to this society by this post.

Satyarthiji happened to visit a circus along with his team who looked forward to crack down the activities of these goons and free umpteen children from human trafficking. These goons attacked them all. Satyarthiji had been profoundly wounded. His team and him could not accomplish their motive as a repercussion. One of those victims was hiding in between a herd of elephants. She managed to escape through the gate and reached the vehicle in which Mr. Satyarthiji was present. She was so traumatized that she feared seeing a male. Sir made efforts to make her feel relaxed. During the conversation, Sir came to know that she would be accorded a 'bounty' if her performance in the circus was up to the mark that day. The circus owner, local policemen and other staff would take turns and lead to the trauma and immense pain a girl suffers when some filthy and pervert men would force themselves on her. On the day her performance would not be 'good' enough, she had to face 'vengeance'. For those perverts, a vengeance was analogous to a bounty. Her routine did not change. The society rejected her. They did not sympathize with all the agony she had been through. They had their focus only on one thing- 'Who will marry her now? '

Sir heard about a teen girl visiting a police station and lodging a FIR against her father. The policemen were puzzled first up but they must have imagined the sufferings she had been through after she opened up.  She told, " I told my father not to do it today. My body is aching a lot today. Please let me go." . The adamant father did not comply and did his regular 'business'.

There are umpteen such unreported incidents around us too. For how long will we tolerate this?  Girls deserve all the respect. Keep yourself in control men. No point blaming a woman who is feeling confident and is free-spirited. Instead, you should be ashamed of yourself. The society would never oppose you but you know deep inside that it was your fault. Introspect. Does this make you proud? If yes, you do not deserve to live. A woman is not a piece of meat guys. Do not take her silence for granted.

It is shameful, disgraceful to live in such a society where girls are deprived of freedom, tormented, abused mentally and physically just to satisfy thirsty souls.

Men,let us all stand up for them.

I want all of you to sign this petition- https://www.change.org/p/all-of-us-united-stand-up-for-women
